I think simple reflexes are quite easy to observe, and the neural pathways can be identified. Conditioned reflexes are learned behaviours, and they are much more complicated. I would be interested to know if they have been seen in brain scans, I imagine that it would involve a large number of neurons in different parts of the brain.
